OSU series featuring Sister Helen Prejean hopes to create discussion on criminal reform

Starting at the end of July, Sister Helen Prejean will share the experiences of her journey as a criminal justice advocate for a five-week, six session series at The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University called Prelude to Justice: Art, Reform and the Work of Sister Helen Prejean.

After 40 years of collegiate teaching and conducting, Joseph Missal will wrap up that career in May with his retirement from OSU. And to cap it off, he’s being inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society Hall of Fame. The formal, in-person ceremony will be rescheduled from its original November date due to COVID-19 restrictions.

OSU Opera presents The Wonderful World of Sondheim

The Oklahoma State University Opera will present The Wonderful World of Sondheim, featuring musical selections by Stephen Sondheim, on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts Recital Hall in Stillwater. The cast is comprised of students from the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music and the Department of Theatre. Admission is free. The performance will also be live-streamed and can be viewed by going to ostate.tv.

Music major to microbrewery owner

Craig Wensell graduated from Oklahoma State in 1998 with a music performance degree before embarking on a journey that included a master’s in music performance, teaching at both the high school and collegiate level, and a tour with the Army in Afghanistan. Upon returning from Afghanistan, Wensell decided to go into home-brewing and has since started two successful businesses.

Music education grad sings for virtual Spring Commencement

If the school year was ending like any other, Dustin Boatright would be performing the songs live at graduation for his fellow College of Arts and Sciences classmates and other attendees. But due to COVID-19, the ceremony has been moved online. The Edmond, Oklahoma, native said the situation is disappointing but unavoidable and ultimately “not the end of the world.”
